What Are Stalking Rods?
Stalking rods are designed to help an angler stalk fish, usually in the margins. Stalking rods are often referred to as a margin rod. They are called stalking rods as stealth tactics are usually required when fishing the margins.
A stalking or margin rod are small and powerful rods. Usually small rods are not very strong and powerful, and powerful rods are usually very big so it’s important to have the right tackle for the job.
When stalking or margin fishing, you are usually fishing very close into the bank, this is where stealth tactics come into play. Fish will be able to see your rod tip if it is too long.
When fishing the margins, you also need a strong and powerful rod, as there are often lots of overhanging trees and other features that carp will snag you in if you do not have a powerful rod capable of guiding the carp away from the snags.
Stalking rods therefore offer the best of both worlds in that they are small and stealthy whilst also being strong and powerful.
